Extensions and lifts are hard on natural lashes: the weight of a set, the adhesive, and the chemical solutions used in a lift can all leave lashes brittle. A serum can help — if you use the right one, the right way.
Why oil is the problem
Most extension adhesives are cyanoacrylate-based. Oils and some glycols soften the bond, so a heavy or oily serum can make a new set shed early. Look for “oil-free” or “water-based” on the pack and check the INCI list for castor oil, argan oil or other plant oils.
Timing around appointments
| Treatment | Pause before restarting serum |
|---|---|
| New set of extensions | 24–48 hours (until adhesive has fully cured) |
| Infill | 24 hours |
| Lash lift / tint | 48 hours |
| Removal | Restart the same evening if skin is calm |
How to apply with extensions
- Clean the lash line with an oil-free extension cleanser and let it dry.
- Use a single thin stroke at the very base of the natural lashes, avoiding the bond point.
- Do not brush the serum through the extensions.
- Let it dry for two minutes before sleeping; sleep on your back if you can.
What technicians told us
The lash technicians we spoke to agreed on three points: tell your technician you use a serum, so they can check your natural lashes at each infill; take a break from extensions for a full growth cycle once or twice a year; and never pick or pull at shedding extensions, which takes the natural lash with it.
