Lash serum questions, answered plainly
How long do eyelash serums take to work in practice?
Most serums show visible change between week six and week ten, with the fullest result around week twelve to sixteen. Lashes grow in cycles, so the effect arrives gradually as resting lashes are replaced rather than all at once.
Are prostaglandin-analogue lash serums legal in the UK?
Bimatoprost is a prescription-only medicine in the UK and cannot be sold as a cosmetic. Some cosmetic serums use related synthetic analogues such as isopropyl cloprostenate, which regulators have moved to restrict. Always read the full ingredient list and be wary of any serum promising prescription-grade results.
Will results last if I stop using the serum?
No. A serum supports the existing growth cycle, so lashes return to their natural length and density roughly two to three months after you stop. Most people move to three or four applications a week after week twelve.
Can I use a lash serum with extensions or a lash lift?
Yes, provided the formula is oil-free, because oils break down extension adhesive. Apply to the lash line only and let it dry fully before sleeping. Wait 24–48 hours after a lift or new set before restarting.
Do lash serums cause eye colour change or darker eyelids?
Iris pigmentation change is associated with prostaglandin-analogue medicines. Mild lid darkening can occur with some formulas and usually fades after you stop. Stop immediately if you develop persistent redness, swelling or pain and speak to a pharmacist or GP.
Can I use a lash serum on my eyebrows?
Most lash serums are safe on brows and many brands say so on the pack. Apply a thin line to sparse areas once a day. Brow hair has a longer resting phase, so allow at least twelve weeks before judging the result.
Are lash serums safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
Most brands advise against use during pregnancy and breastfeeding because the ingredients have not been studied in those groups. Check with your midwife, GP or pharmacist before starting.
How much does a lash serum cost per month?
Across our ranking, a tube used nightly lasts roughly two to four months, which works out at about £8 to £30 a month. Value per night matters more than the headline price.
How do you make money, and does it affect the ranking?
Some links may earn us a commission when you buy. Positions are not for sale, brands cannot pay to be included, and the scoring weightings are published so the ranking can be argued with.
